Comfort and High Quality for Life Science Imaging
The SZX7 stereo microscope’s Galilean optical system offers excellent image quality, especially when using a digital microscope camera. The microscope is suitable for life science imaging applications with high color fidelity optics, a 7:1 zoom ratio, and a universal LED stand.
Cost-Efficient Stereo with System Modularity
Galilean Optical System
The Galilean optical system employs two (right/left) independent and parallel zoom optical paths, achieving both superior optical performance and high system modularity. Careful selection of lens surface coatings and apochromatic zoom optics make it possible to observe and document specimen in more similar coloration to their original authentic colors.
Wide 7:1 Zoom Ratio
Covering a zoom magnification range of 8x-56x with its 1x objective, and offering up to 112x magnification with a 2x objective, the SZX7’s macro-to-micro flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of routine observation and inspection tasks.
Choice of High-Performance Objectives
The DFPlan series combines high-NA resolving power and working comfort with "distortion-free" optical design for exceptionally flat imaging, and includes a 2x objective lens with an NA of 0.2 for high-resolution imaging at 600 linepairs per millimeter.
Comfortable LED Illumination Base
The universal reflected/transmitted light LED illumination stand brings together all the advantages of LED technology. The flat, high-brightness LEDs allow successful integration of transmitted illumination into a very slim base, which in turn facilitates easy specimen access and manipulation.
Choice of Suitable Contrast and Observation Method
SZX2-ILLTQ/SZX2-ILLTS
With a slim 41.5 mm design, that is approximately half the thickness of previous halogen lamp transmitted light illumination bases, new LED transmitted light illumination bases have a lower height to enable a low eyepoint and easy access to base-mounted samples during observation and operation.
Cartridges for SZX2-ILLTQ/SZX2-ILLTS
The LED illumination base SZX2-ILLTQ with quad position turret enables the user to choose cartridges and to switch from brightfield (standard/high/low), oblique (standard/high/low), darkfield, polarized illumination, and shutter with a simple turn. A one position LED illumination base is also an option (SZX2-ILLTS). This makes the SZX7 a flexible microscope for various samples and observation tasks.
Digital Imaging and Documentation
The SZX7 can also be equipped with a trinocular tube and Olympus DP series digital camera for high-resolution imaging and research documentation. DP series cameras offer the high sensitivity for a wide range of applications, including high-sensitivity fluorescence imaging, and can be easily controlled using Olympus cellSens software.
cellSens Extended Focus Imaging
Create a single in-focus image from successive image planes as the focus knob is turned using the Extended Focus Imaging (EFI) function. A motorized focus drive fully automates EFI acquisition. EFI composite images can also be created directly from previously captured Z-stacks.
Ergonomic Observation Tube and Extendable Eyepoint Adjuster
Olympus’ long tilting trinocular tube (SZX2-LTTR) improves the ergonomics of our stereo microscopes. This trinocular can be adjusted from 5 to 45 degrees to facilitate a more natural head and neck position while working. In addition, the eyepoint adjuster (SZX2-EEPA) enables users to raise or lower the eyepoint within a 120 mm range to accommodate users of different heights. The combination of these ergonomic components helps reduce stress and fatigue by keeping users in a more natural posture while they’re working.

Quick Magnification Recall
Many inspection and documentation tasks require the use of a known zoom magnification setting to get consistent and comparable results. The integrated click-stop mechanism provides quick and easy access to this important function.
